RDP vs SSH: Which Protocol Should You Use?
RDP and SSH are the two main ways to connect to a remote server. Choosing the right one depends on what you are doing. This guide explains the differences clearly.
What Is RDP?
Remote Desktop Protocol. Lets you see and control a Windows desktop remotely.
Best for graphical applications: Chrome, MT4, Excel, design software.
Most ecommerce sellers and Forex traders use RDP because their tools require graphical interfaces.
What Is SSH?
Secure Shell. Text-based command line connection.
Best for Linux servers, web hosting, Python scripts, server administration.
Faster and uses less bandwidth than RDP because no graphics are transferred.
Which Should You Choose?
If you need Chrome + UnicornDS + eBay = RDP (Windows VPS).
If you need MT4 + Forex EA = RDP (Windows VPS).
If you run only Python scripts and web apps = SSH (Linux VPS).
All UnicornVPS plans support both. You choose your OS at provisioning.
Security Best Practices
Use strong passwords (12+ characters, mix of types).
Change default port if possible (RDP default is 3389, SSH default is 22).
Enable two-factor authentication where supported.
Never share credentials in plain text.
